Bergamot Iced Tea Cocktail
Nothing screams summertime like an iced tea cocktail. There are an endless amount of variations on the tea-based cocktail, but most call for your traditional sweet tea mixture. Our version uses top of the line Earl Grey tea, simply syrup, and your preferred version of a citrus infused vodka.
The "Bergamot" in the title comes from the inclusion of Earl Grey. It has a very distinct depth of flavor that includes tartness, acidic, fragrant, and spicy. Bergamots lend their flavors to the classic Earl Grey tea, which is essentially a combination of black tea and the citrus fruit. No one is really sure how the combination came about. Some stories say it was invented by accident while black tea and bergamots were in transit from China, where tea took on flavors of the citrus. Other claim that the tea was invented to mask the unpleasant flavor of the water from the Grey estate.
Either way, the combination of Taylors of Harrogate Earl Grey tea, sugar, and citrus infused vodka is the perfect combination for a bright, refreshing summer cocktail.
Before you invite folks over to have our Bergamot Iced Tea Cocktail, you'll want to tackle the simple syrup and brewing the tea ahead of time so that it's ready to serve chilled.
Making the Simple Syrup
Simple syrup is just sugar dissolved in water. To expedite the process, we recommend bringing the water to a steep before you combine the ingredients.
Ingredients You'll Need
- 1 1/3 cups sugar
- 1 1/3 cups water
Bring the water to a steep in a small sauce pan and slowly add the sugar while stirring. Continue stirring until the sugar is completely resolved and then set the simple syrup aside to chill to room temperature.
