Taylors Black Sweet Tea Bourbon
There are few things as truly "southern" as sweet tea. Except for maybe Bourbon. No, sweet tea. No - bourbon. We can't really decide so why not just combine them into one glass?
This recipe is the perfect counterpoint to sweltering afternoons during the warm months of summer. The sweetness and bitterness of the Taylors of Harrogate Black Tea and the punch of bourbon will help you easily and quickly settle into that patio lounger. There's no lengthy backstory to this particular cocktail, it's just really good.
Because it takes some advance preparation, we recommend you do the infusion about 2 hours before you plan to serve drinks.
Making the Sweet Tea
Ingredients and supplies you'll need:
Bring water to a boil. Once the water is boiling, turn off the heat allowing the water to come down to a steep. Add the Taylors of Harrogate Black Tea bags. Steep tea for 3 to 5 minutes. If you want something a little bit stronger in flavor, you can steep it longer. Once the tea is ready, remove the tea bags, place the tea in a large pitcher and let it rest in the refrigerator until cold.
How to Make the Sweet Tea Bourbon
With the tea properly chilled, you'll go about making Taylors Black Sweet Tea Bourbon by simply following the recipe below:
Ingredients you'll need:
- 1/4 cup agave syrup (honey will do too)
- 1/4 to 1/2 cup bourbon (depending on how strong you want your cocktail)
- 4 - 6 sliced orange rounds
- 6 sprigs fresh mint
Once you've got your ingredients ready, place agave, bourbon, orange slices and fresh mint in a medium bowl. With the back of a muddle (or the back of a spoon), begin to muddle (or press together) the ingredients. Once the mixture is pressed together, and the flavors are extracted to the point where you can smell them, add that mixture to the pitcher of tea. Stir vigorously. If you don't want any pulp in the cocktail, feel free to strain the orange wedges and the mint leaves.
Fill glasses with ice cubes and pour mixture over.
